Jigsaw and KasCare invite you to ‘Knit-a-Square’

Wool Week begins next Monday and Jigsaw is joining forces with KasCare to create knitted squares for orphans in South Africa. Nearly two million children in the country are parentless, hungry, cold and living in poverty following the devastating effects of HIV and AIDS. This figure is growing by 500 every day.

Jigsaw has long recognised the warmth and durability of wool. With your help, we want to provide warmth and comfort for these children in the bitterly cold winters. We are inviting you to knit a square and bring it to a Jigsaw store. The squares will then be shipped to South Africa where they will make a huge difference to the lives of these vulnerable children.

If you have never knitted before, but would like to get involved in the project, here is a link to some beginner’s instructions. We would particularly like to encourage schools and children to take part in the initiative. The project is simple and accessible and your children will quickly understand that their efforts WILL make a difference, not only in helping keep a child warm, but in raising awareness of this mostly hidden tragedy. Click here for a 40 page teacher resource that can help you introduce the project to your children or a school.

Jigsaw hope to make a real difference with the ‘Knit-a-Square’ initiative and we are proud to be working with the Campaign for Wool and KasCare charities.
